I just installed Drivel, an blog client for Linux. So far it's easier than the web interface, so we shall see how it goes. It works so far, three sentences in.

Let's talk about computers then. They're one of those things I like messing about with, but I don't think I could ever do it as a career. I was briefly employed by my school's IT department a few years ago, but then they hired a recent graduate and couldn't afford to pay me my $7/hour. This was no impediment to the clever folks there: they just gave my phone number to random students whenever they were too busy. So we all benefited, except for me.

I don't really use Windows very much; I prefer a brand of Linux called Gentoo, like the penguin. It's more complicated to install than a lot of other distributions, but once it's running it's super-easy to maintain. The biggest problem I always had with Linux was installing and upgrading software, but Gentoo uses a package system that does the gruntwork for you. I've been using it for four or five years now I think, which is literally about ten times as long as any other distro I tried. (Second place lasted like five months I believe.)

The main thing I appreciate about Linux when I do use Windows now is that I never feel like software companies are intruding into my personal space. I don't see ads on instant messenger and barely any while surfing the internet (why is "internet" flagged as misspelled?), everything is Open Source so I never have to put in serial numbers or register software, and I don't have to worry about my email client giving complete control of my computer to whoever sends me a virus. It's all so stress-free. Except for when I accidentally wipe out the system files or something, but that's usually my own darn fault.

So to wrap up, if you can see this post, my nifty-keen new blog client works.
