This is why there's no wind

The New Yorker has a Q&A with one of its writers about the Dover, PA creationism trial. It'd be neat to actually have a science curriculum that involved growing fruit flies or yeast or something, and setting up a selective environment that would lead to a new trait emerging in the population. It's been done plenty of times in lab conditions but I don't know about, say, middle school classrooms. A computer simulation would probably be safer and easier, though not as convincing.

National Geographic has an article this month about prehistoric sea reptiles. It has neat pictures of really big animals that don't exist anymore. I like them because they're really big and really weird-looking, which is basically what I look for in an animal.

So even though I think people becoming too mentally involved with the characters on mindless sitcoms and prime time TV is the emotional equivalent of bees molesting plastic flowers, you would be wrong to think I am hypocritical for having the exact same dependency on web comics. Because web comics are awesome. It is a problem for me that Achewood hasn't been updated since before Thanksgiving, but Ray's got a hilarious new post on his blog so it's okay. And today's Questionable Content was completely unexpected, and I'm anxious too see how this plays. If you have never read QC, follow the link in the sidebar and start with #1 and you'll be all Sweet Cow All Mighty what will Marten and Faye do I should have seen this coming the signs were all there too once you get to today's. And yes, I know these people are fictional. I just happen to like them more than real people, so shut up.
