It's a common snapping turtle, a related but smaller species. The is about four times as large and can easily take off hands. I don't have a good picture of him, though.

I just want to pet that turtle's head.
No, you really don't. It has a strike range of about 3/4 its body length (about a foot), and can easily take off fingers.
is that the alligator turtle snapping amphibian you were telling us about?
